Guest whiterosessom Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 The panel flashes on the Climate Control on start up. When I switch from AUTO to ECON what should I hear as I can't tell no difference. It heats up fine but as yet we haven't tried if it gets really cold in the summer. Has anyone any ideas please. Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 From reading earlier posts,,,,,,flashing CC means you have something wrong,,,,,,,,,,might need regassing,,,,,but could be something worse,,,,,,, I know this does not help,,,,,,but from what i have read noone can give a positive answer p.s,,,,mine flashes as well,,,,,,,, Quote
mumof4 Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Our cc flashed aswell....it did this for a month or so.then all of a sudden it stopped! :( Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 As bigdaddy has said, flashing means "something" is wrong. I'm not sure what compressor you have on yours as your have a VW engine. but you cna deffinately hear the compressor kick in (with drop in engine revs) when going from ECON TO AUTO. Someone has recently said that the VW compressors are variable volume and therfore are always "on" Anyone with a VW care to confirm/deny this????? Its is "probably" low gas, but may not be, mine flashes because it has a problem with the memory in the CC unit. VAG-COM can read the error though, which willl tell you exactly what the problem is. Where abouts are you?? maybe someone close by will read the codes for you. I'd be more than happy if your not miles away :( Steven Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 One other thing. The CC will not start the aircon part if the temp is at or below 5DEG. Make sure the outside temp is highter than that 1st. Steven Quote
jackspud Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 if the climatecontrol panel flashes then you have low pressure in your aircon system, its a case of find the leak if there is one, regass and the connect a vagcom and clear the fault code all done. :( Quote
mumof4 Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Going to sound daft now(s as usual). What are the Auto and Econ for???when i was driving i kept pressing them to see what would happen..i could hear air somewhere...kids have lost the manual or id have a look. Quote
mumof4 Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 if the climatecontrol panel flashes then you have low pressure in your aircon system then how come ours just stopped flashing? Quote
jackspud Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 auto is used to keep the vehicle at a given temp by using the heating and aircon systems. econ is just that it will switch off when not needed and restart when the temp is higher or lower then the setting. Quote
jackspud Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 when your climatecontrol dash flashes for 15 secs on first switching on then it has low pressure and has registered a fault code on the system and it will not stop till it is cleared even if you regass and it works perfectly, never had a flashing dash that stopped its self :( Quote
mumof4 Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Im just wondering now if the garage that fixed our alt has regassed the cc..ill have to give him a ring today to ask.He never said that he had tho.But it def flashed and now it doesnt. By the way peeps..I fixed 1 window!! B) ....(hubby recknons it was my juddering gear change that did it! ) There was a piece of plastic wedged i think so that the switch would not go down (kiddies managed to brake part of the switch and it fell inside!) Guest whiterosessom Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Thanks for all the replies If anyone has a Vag - Com as Steve suggested I'm in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Quote

It is quite likely to be low gas. It's also not true that you have to find the leak, automotive aircon usually loses the gas via the compressor shaft seals. You can reduce this by running the compressor regularly, winter and summer. Panels that flash and then don't can be caused by low pressure, when the ambient temp rises the pressure increases and the flashing stops. As far as I know the aircon does not have to be reset following re-gassing The Auto / Econ modesAuto, will handle all of the fan speeds and air distribution, it also on later models controls the heated screen. Eco will just disable the compressor.IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY START UP THE COMPRESSOR AGAIN Regards - JB Quote
mumof4 Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 So if i press econ..what exactly will happen...it shuts off the compresser for the heating in the car? Quote
Bigjeeze Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 So if i press econ..what exactly will happen...it shuts off the compresser for the heating in the car? If you press econ it shuts off the compressor so you don't have the Air Con on - it will still heat from the engine but it will only cool as far as the outsdie air temperature. When the compressor runs it cools the air. Quote
